SIMPLE TIPS TO START

When it comes to learning any new skill, it’s important to remember that every child progresses at their own pace, and that practice, practice, practice makes perfect.

Here are a few simple tips you can start to support their success in school and beyond.

Make words and language a part of every day

Create a special place for daily language and hands-on learning activities

Point out new objects and practice connecting objects and words during car rides

Sound out each item you add to your cart at the grocery store

Get them talking

Look at family photos and ask them what they see: family members, important events, cultural traditions, etc.

Play word games, such as, “I Spy”, “I’m Going on a Trip” and “Simon Says”

Challenge them to say their favorite nursery rhyme, song and story from start to finish.

Make reading fun

Make nap time even better with at least 15 minutes of story time together.

Let them be your special helper, in charge of turning the page and following along with their finger.

Go to the library often and let them fill a reusable canvas bag with multiple books to bring home
